Jelena Pantelić (1992) was born in Belgrade. She has completed her MA at the University of Fine Arts in Belgrade, after a semester at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris (2018). Pantelić sees her own practice through the domain of personal experience and common ground, observing activities, discipline and chores that belong to everyday life rather than the extraordinary. In doing so, the artist performs her art as labour rather than work, a matter of necessity rather than choice, exploiting the rituals of cleaning, eating, intimate intercourse and self care (or lack thereof). By dealing with the details from within her own life, her work provides a specific interpretation of human behaviour, thus offering a wider picture of the social context in which the artist operates. Jelena Pantelić participated in group exhibitions such as Mundane, Eugster || Belgrade (Belgrade, 2019), Private Value, Swiss residence (Belgrade, 2018), Perspectives XXXIIII, Serbian Cultural Center (Paris, 2018), The Wrong Biennale – Prosthetic pavilion (2017), The Grand Tour Show, Art Space Catch 22 (Belgrade, 2017) and others. She was one of Mangelos Award finalists in 2019, organized by Remont – Independent Cultural Association and Young Visual Artists Award, supported by Residency Unlimited (New York).
