Curated by Ana Ivanovic
The exhibition Screenshots of Now examines the notion of the present moment, that is, those aspects that make the notion of contemporaneity very complex, as well as how art and individual artistic practices function within the given framework. Using personal experience as a basis, fluidly moving through different media (video, drawing, photography, text, installation), the artist creates a kind of note about his own position within a given frame. Such a framework is product-oriented, in which we live as workers and / or as consumers in an area of unequal redistribution of power determined by global capitalism. In that sense, the position of the artist stands out as the one that has the potential to distance itself from the banality of production and consumer culture through the criticism and skepticism that contemporaneity demands today. In Driton’s works sharp humor and subtle irony are sensed through words and language that he incorporates into his works, leaving the audience with notes, messages and questions for further interpretation.
The notion of Screenshot, that is, a kind of digital documentation, recording content on the screen, in this case, is used as a metaphor for the need to quickly record the moment in a society that is in constant motion, burdened with presentism and doing everything “now and at this precise moment”. Driton’s works have that energy of instant connection, catchiness that immediately interests the spectator, so that through further reading one can see the deeper connection between artist’s personal perspective, intimate space and position in the global environment.
