The Embrace is a site specific, collaborative performance by the artists Voin de Voin (Bulgaria) and Marta Jovanović (Serbia), created as a reaction to the COVID – 19 pandemic and the notion of social distancing. Over a year ago, a nomadic life of the artists has been brought to a halt, the entire world has stopped, and we all realized that human contact is as essential as food, water, and shelter. The two artists were isolated in the Avala House, created by TEN, architectural studio from Zurich and Belgrade, situated in a pastural landscape on Avala mountain near Belgrade, Serbia. They have been embracing for six hours, the amount of time it takes to drive between Sofia and Belgrade, the distance that separates them physically, emotionally, mentally and conceptually.
